Oaxaca & Surrounds Teotitlan del Valle is located about 30 miles (45 minutes) outside of Oaxaca City in the heart of the culturally and artistically rich central valley of this southern Mexican state. The valley is between 5,500 and 7,500 feet above sea level with a year-round, warm, sunny, and dry climate. Expect about 70 degrees in the day and 50 degrees at night. Blue skies should be the rule. Although dry, it can feel cold at night. The village is the historical source of tapestry rug weaving in Mexico and considered to be the source of the best rugs of this style. Close by Oaxaca City is a United Nations World Heritage site and home to museums, 15th century churches, a lively central square (Zacalo), and world-class contemporary and folk art shopping - not to mention multiple forms of weaving, embroidery, and traditional clothing. | |||||||||||
